Child Find Event January 22nd for children 0-5 years

Child Find Event in Our District for Children 0-5 Years:
A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for DeSmet School District
will be held on January 22, 2024, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at DeSmet School.
This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts,
communication skills, hearing and vision screening.
Please call to schedule an appointment for your child’s screening or to receive more information.

What Is Child Find?
Child find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA ’04) that
requires states to locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities, ages birth through 21 years,
who need early intervention or special education services.

Developmental and Educational Services for Children Ages Birth
through 21 Years
Some children have more difficulty learning than others. They may have trouble achieving milestones in
one or more of the following developmental or academic areas:
• Vision and Hearing
• Motor Control or Coordination
• Behavior or Social Skills
• Speech or Communication Skills
• Cognitive or Academic Skills
