Hi Guardians and Friends of Desmet,
This year we are starting a new and fun tradition at the school. We will have a Halloween costume parade and trunk or treat event in and around our school. For those of you who may not be aware of a trunk or treat is: adults decorating the trunk or back of their car and handing out candy or small gifts (Google has great pictures of these types of events.) The reason we are starting this event this year is to give the students an opportunity to trick or treat within the bubble of our community and to give our community members an opportunity to participate in a safe Trick-or-Treat event during this time of the COVID19 pandemic. This is a safe way for children and adults to be able to experience the fun of trick or treating for Halloween with less exposure to those outside their social bubbles.
We are asking guardians, friends of families, and family members to come help us celebrate on Friday, October 30th. Set up will begin at 2:00pm and at 2:45pm the student parade will start. We are hoping to see many cars lined up around the school ready for the students to parade out and trick or treat.
Some of our students have nut allergies (especially peanuts) so please make sure to have some candy available that is peanut free and kept safely away from any candy that contains nuts. These students when trick or treating will be given a teal ribbon and teal bag to signify they have an allergy in case they forget to mention it while trick or treating. Also, if you are a car that is going to have allergy free candy feel free to signify this by having a teal pumpkin there which is a symbol that you have allergy free candy or goodies. To learn more about this you can visit: https://www.foodallergy.org/our-initiatives/awareness-campaigns/living-teal/teal-pumpkin-project
We will be able to provide some candy, tongs, and gloves to those who would like to hand out the candy. Face masks will be required for all those who are participating and the students will be required to wear masks with their costumes at school that day.
If you are interested in participating please RSVP by email to Jackie Tunis at email@example.com, or call Vicki Richards at the front office, 406-549-4994. This will allow us to have the supplies needed for the participants and have an idea of how many people will be participating.
Thank you and we can’t wait to celebrate Halloween together!
