Recently Anne Brown, our Kitchen Supervisor, applied for and received $8,045 from the Food Research & Action Center since our district :
- serves nutritionally well-balanced breakfasts that meet or exceed current USDA nutrition standards for the federal School Breakfast Program free of charge to all students,
- has developed a class room based breakfast that encourages all students to participate,
- increase the percentage of students receiving breakfast in the schools funded by grant from 75% to at least 95% of average daily attendance.
Anne has been able to use funds from this grant to purchase an Altoshaam oven to cook foods and keep them warm until they are served. She has also run a contest with students from all grades for “Why Breakfast is Important”. One student from each grade was able to win a $10 gift card to Walmart.
